Today, Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-05) announced approximately $190 million in tax cuts were sent to more than 77,000 hardworking families in Georgia's Fifth Congressional District this year through the expanded Child Tax Credit. The figures are according to new estimates from the Joint Economic Committee. Next year, many of these families will see even more tax cuts when they file their taxes.

An estimated $3,000,000,000 in tax cuts will go to hardworking Georgia families in 2021. Nationwide, 90 percent of families with kids received the Child Tax Credit monthly tax cuts this year.

"The Child Tax Credit delivered life-changing payments directly to hardworking families throughout Georgia's Fifth Congressional District," said Congresswoman Williams. "These payments are another example of how me and my Democratic colleagues are delivering for the American people. Putting people's own money back in their pockets ahead of the holidays means more money to buy presents, put a holiday meal on the table, or get gas in the car to visit family. For six months, Fifth District families have seen that these tax cuts work. Congress must now make them permanent."

The American Rescue Plan expanded the Child Tax Credit to up to $3,600 per child for children ages 0 to 5, and $3,000 per child for children ages 6 to 17. The American Rescue Plan also authorized advance monthly payments of that tax cut beginning in July and running through December 2021 - allowing families to get up to $300 a month per child for children ages 0 to 5 or $250 a month per child for children ages 6 to 17 each month. Families will get their remaining expanded Child Tax Credit when they file their 2021 tax return next year.
